Story
Today, follow us as we head south — 400 kilometers on the road. 🚗🍂 Starting from Jiayin, the northernmost point, we cruised slowly down along the border highway. Early in the morning, we stopped beside the border river. It was cold and very windy. Most of the trees along the riverbank had long since shed their leaves, leaving nothing but bare branches. Russia was just across the water. It looked very close, but somehow still felt far away. My wifey started by posing with the cattle by the river, Then climbed onto a fallen tree beside the river. The wind blew through his golden hair, with the dark blue water and autumn forest behind him. The view, which had felt a bit desolate, suddenly turned quiet and beautiful — just because he was sitting there ✨ After leaving Jiayin, we followed the G331 highway south. The road ran between the forest and the Heilongjiang River. For more than 300 kilometres, everything was covered in the colours of late autumn. As we drove, the temperature, the light, and the landscape shifted subtly, almost without us noticing 🌲🍁We drove along the frontier, drifting through autumn's edge, slowly passing through the vast, quiet stillness of the far north. Sometimes we turned onto small country roads and stopped beside the river. Near a cornfield, my wifey suddenly hugged me and tried to act out a romantic scene from 'Red Sorghum' and have his way with me. That was how we ended up saying: “He wants to do it with me in the cornfield.” 😂 In the end, we didn't get to reenact 'Red Sorghum' — but we almost starred in 'Getting out of My Car'. When we arrived in Jiayin the night before, every online guide told us to go for the local river fish. But after looking around, we felt the prices were a bit steep — and we weren't really craving it anyway — so we just being cheap decided to skip it. The next day, we found a small roadside restaurant with a cheaper fish dish. We ordered it, and it was surprisingly delicious 😄 My wifey wasn't bothered by that muddy, earthy taste at all — whether it's seafood or river fish, as long as it's good, she'll dig in with pure enjoyment. The drive was long, but it was full of funny little moments 💬 “What do I look like today?” “A university student who repeated the same year eighteen times.” “Get out of my car!” “Were you the one who got excited first?” This may not be a show full of big jokes or dramatic stories. It is simply a real road-trip diary about two husbands travelling together—through autumn forests, along the border river and down a road that seemed to never end. We were chasing the last colors of autumn in the Lesser Khingan Mountains — and we left all those small, imperfect, but real little joys scattered along the way. ❤️
